8 May 2008 to 10 May 2008- Commemoration of popular traditions
Assisi. It is a spectacular evocation of medieval and
Renaissance costumes and life. The two ancient medieval
wards, the "Parte di Sopra" and the "Parte
di Sotto", engage in a spectacular challenge which
takes the form of theatre shows, concerts, songs and
choruses, dances, processions, archery, crossbow and
flag-waving displays. The districts compete in a singing
contest among the spectacular floral decorations, flags,
torches and candles.

The Festival is developed on the roads of the sagrantino
between Giano dell' Umbria, Montefalco, Gualdo Cattaneo,
Bevagna and Castel Ritaldi in the name of one of the finest
wines of the Umbrian land, to give the public a journey
in the territories of the theater and of the contemporary
dance of author, without to scorn raids in the music to
the continuous search and discovery of the novelties Portion
of Umbria. Next to shows the search and the production
of texts of the new drammaturgia with an always attentive
eye to the quality and to the novelty.

Oenological Week 2008

The traditional meeting with the Sagrantino wines of Montefalco
Docg is coming back. Once again, this year, is forecast
a calendar full of appointments for tourists, with the
tasting before all of the year 2004 production, with the
traditional exhibition of comic strips from the designer
host of this new edition, thematic dinners, laboratories
of the taste, taste's walks, guided visits.

Race of the ring 2008 of Narni
Historical festival
The "Race of the ring 2008 of Narni" is the
main event of a large historic evocation organized during
the days preceding and following the celebration of the
protector San Giovenale and that has its origin in the
traditional ceremonies dating back to the first half
of the XIVth century. The event is a travel through the
moments forecast and codified in the Communal Statutes
of 1371 after Christ, following the "reading of
the banno", when horse riding brigands called at
the "certamen" the cavaliers of Narni in order
to have them demonstrate their preparation for the defence
of the city. On the evening itself the program goes on
with the "Offer of the Wax in the Cathedral" made
by the communal authorities and the representants of
the Arts and of the Castles that during the Middle Ages
were under the jurisdiction of the city. A night parade,
composed of more than 600 personages, reaches the Cathedral
to give an homage to the tomb of San Giovenale, first
Bishop of Narni. On May 3rd, during the celebration of
the saint protector, takes place on the 2Platea Major",
the actual "Piazza dei Priori" the "Historic
Race of the Ring"; it consists of an equestrian
race, to which during the Antiquity were allowed to participate
all the young men of Narni possessing a horse, during
which the cavaliers must take with a silver spar a ring
hanging to two cables in front of the Communal Palace.
On the Saturday preceding the second Sunday of May takes
place the Historic Parade in costume with the Pontifical
and Communal authorities, the ones of the Terzieri, the
Corporations and the noble families. At the end of the
celebrations, on the second Sunday of May, the three
historic terzieri of the city fight against each other
in the "Race of the ring" in the stadium San
Girolamo, best known during these days as "land
of the games". The cavaliers, each one recognized
thanks to the colours of its team, respectively white-black
for Mezule, red-blue for Fraporta and orange-viola for
Santa Maria fight in a direct duel of ability and fastness.
Halfway of the elliptic circuit are placed the rings
that each one of both cavaliers, galloping on his own
horse, must take with the spar, in such a way to collect
three of them in the fastest possible way. In fact, at
this moment, an electric device makes fall down all the
remaining rings on the ground making it impossible for
the other cavalier to collect them and therefore deciding
the victory of a cavalier over the other.
ORVIETO
Palombella Festival
11 May 2008- This festivity was introduced in
the 15th century by the Monaldeschi family.On White Sunday
a shrine depicting the Empyrean and a white dove is placed
upon the Lantern of the Church of San Francesco. A Gothic
tabernacle portraying the Cenacle is laid on the Cathedral
steps. At midday fireworks issue from the Empyrean, while
the dove descends towards the tabernacle along a wire.
Auspices for the year are drawn according to the way the

Celebration of Made in Italy and
Slow Food 29

Edition - Seven days between September and October 2008,
to celebrate the wine and gastronomic tradition of the "Made
in Italy".
Once again this year "Orvieto con Gusto" ("Orvieto
with taste"), the event dedicated to the culture of
alimentation and good life, is organised by the City of
Orvieto in collaboration with the Association Slow Food
and the GAL. The prestigious event was born in 1997, after
a memorable world congress of the "Slow Food" Movement
which took place properly in the Umbrian city. So, once
again, from the city of the cliffs one will be entitled
to require an alimentation able to preserve the territorial
diversities inside an environment friendly framework and
to retrieve a link with taste and with a time not contaminated
by the stress of the actual rhythms of life.
During the events, the cultural appointments will not miss
such as the conferences inside the museums and the historic
monuments, the laboratories of the taste, food itineraries,
painting exhibitions and theme dinners.

Umbria Jazz Festival 2008 is, without any doubt, one of
the most important event dedicated to jazz in Europe. Since
1973, when was inaugurated the first edition of the Festival
Umbria Jazz, the biggest jazz artists have come to Perugia:during
the '70 Dizzy Gillespie, Sam Rivers, Herbie Hanckok, Enrico
Rava, Miles Davis, Lionel Hampton and during the more recent
editions of the festival Dedee Bridgewater, Gilberto Gil
, Milton Nascimento, Terence Blanchard, Paolo Conte, Vinicio
Capossela, Nicola Arigliano, Miriam Makeba, Renzo Arbore

The Eurochocolate festival of Perugia 2008 has its core center in the historic
center of the city, from Rocca Paolina up to the squares and the internal areas:
Carducci Gardens, Piazza Italia, Piazza della Repubblica, Corso Vannucci, Via
Mazzini, Via Fani, The Terrace of the Covered Market, and Piazza November IVth.
The kermis Eurochocolate Perugia 2008 has earned in a couple of years the sympathy
of the people asserting itself as the most popular festival of the chocolate
and the most followed by Italians, making of Perugia the European capital of
the chocolate. For nine days the Umbrian chief town transforms itself for the
occasion in a huge open-air pastry-shop for the delight of all the greedy persons
and the slaves of cacao.
At Eurochocolate Perugia festival will be organized dozens of big events concentrated
on the "food of the gods" with exhibitions, laboratories, internships,
cooking classes, tasting, expositions, banquets, celebrations and the final prices:

SPELLO
Corpus Christi Floral Decorations
24 May 2008 to 25 May 2008-The "floral decorations" are
floral compositions representing liturgical figurations
and ornamental motifs. The preparations require weeks of
work but the compositions are completed with fresh flowers
during the course of a single night. By using only strongly
scented flowers and grasses, figures and ornamental motifs
of brilliant colors and subtle shades are obtained. The
floral decorations are the chef-d'oeuvre of Spello's artistic
creativity and, with their colors and fragrances, create
a highly evocative sight in the streets of the city.

From June to July 2008
The Spoleto Festival 2008, known as Festival of the two
Worlds, is organized every year between the end of June
and mid-July in the heart of Umbria.
After that in 1958 Gian Carlo Menotti inaugurates the first
edition, the Spoleto Festival becomes, year after year,
a center of big interest for the performances of dance,
prose and lyrics.
The fact that the Maestro Menotti chooses
personally the artists among the most talented professionals
of the sector but also among the most promising young talents,
has made of the Festival of the two Worlds an inexhaustible
font of great professionals of the world of spectacle.
The Spoleto Festival 2008, with the president artistic
director Francis Menotti, is nowadays a worldwide attraction
that gives an international image and fame to the Umbrian
city; therefore it is important to remember the period
during which the italo-American composer, already from
1956, is looking for an Italian city having the possibility
and the characteristics to welcome the musical festival
he wants to realize.
The artists chooses Spoleto, one
says in alternative to Todi, convinced by the stenographic
spaces at disposal: the XVIIth century theater Caio Melisso
(at that time dedicated to cinema and which perfect acoustics
was recovered at the expenses of the composer), the big
XIX century new theater, the open air Roman theater and
the very suggestive spaces such as the Cathedral Square,
where the final concerts of the Festival of the two Worlds
have always been organized. After the performance of 1958
of the Mac Beth of Verdi, conducted by Thomas Schippers
for the production of Luchino Visconti, Spoleto is applauded
as the new Italian Salzburg, and during the following years
the Festival of the two Worlds welcomes very famous persons
such as, just to cite some of them, Wally Toscanini, Franco
Zeffirelli, Patroni Griffi, Mario Soldati, Dino Buzzati,
Indro Montanelli, Pablo Neruda, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Salvatore
Quasimodo, Ezra Pound, Eugenj Evtuschenko, Luca Ronconi,
Al Pacino and Mariangela Melato.
