THE SITE
located in the mideval town of Ferentillo at the edge of the Valerina
forest. The town is just 15 minutes from the famous Marmore waterfalls,
Lake Pediluca and other historical sites. The city of Terni is
only 25 minutes away and there is easy access to the E45 connecting
the area to Rome.
FERENTILLO
consists of four (4) separate buildings of medieval origin. All
four buildings have been restored into apartments.
The buildings have thick walls constructed with local stone, traditional terracota tiles cover the roof. The general aspect of the buildings is typical to the vernacular architecture of Umbria. It is very simple with few elements of decoration but as a whole reflects upon the down to earth traditional way of life in the region.
THE PROJECT
During the restoration process the exterior of the houses will
be kept unchanged in order to preserve the architectural character
of the buildings. The interiors, however, have been altered to
accommodate apartments of different sizes.The project includes
the instalation of modern infrastructure and traditional finishing
materials for the adaptation of the interior spaces.
